The Pro-Palestinian protestests brought signs readign 'Boycott Zionis Apartheid #Jews4PalestinianRightOfReturn,' 'Free Palestine,' 'Judaism Rejects the State of Israel,' 'Freedom and Justice for Palestine,' and 'Judaism Demands Free Jerusalem and All Palestine & forbids any Jewish State.'

The latest fighting began last Monday when the Palestinian group Hamas launched rockets at Israel in response to a continuing forceful eviction of Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah, a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, and in retaliation for Israeli police clashes with Palestinians near the city’s Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

The emergency protest & phone bank was organized by the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) and American Muslims for Palestine New Jersey chapter (AMP-NJ). Leaders of the organization called for the end of the United States to providing around $3.8 billion annually to the Israeli military.

This comes after an 11-day war that caused widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip and brought life in much of Israel to a standstill. The violent attacks led to the death of over 240 Palestinians, including at least 65 children, and 12 Israelis, including two children. It marked the worst fighting in the region in decades.
